Alkalife is a naturally occurring pristine alkaline water bottled at the source in the Blue Mountains area of Australia. The water is sourced from underground limestone caverns deep below the earth’s surface where it is pumped and bottled. Alkalife is sourced from an area so remote, there are no electricity lines – power must be generated by generators. This region is part of a World Heritage listed site that is permanently protected and preserved meaning the source will also remain untouched and pure.

Alkalife is also a mineral water. Waters with a mineral content over 250mg/L can be classified as mineral water. Waters with a mineral content less than 250mg/L are spring waters. It is also useful to note that the AIBA and AWA report  best tasting waters have a mineral content between 250mg/L and 500mg/L while water over 500mg/L becomes harsh and difficult to consume. Alkalife has a mineral content of 363mg/L and gives a clean, soft texture which makes the water much more palatable than spring waters.

What are the benefits of Alkalife?

Alkalife is a natural alkaline water. Alkaline waters like alkaline foods help neutralise acid. Our parents always use to tell us to “Eat your vegetables!!” The reason being, not only do you take in a lot of minerals and vitamins from vegetables and fruits, most are alkaline forming foods. Alkaline waters work on this same principle – it helps neutralise acid in your body.

Not only is Alkalife alkaline, it is also very high in minerals that our body cries for. The level of bicarbonate in Alkalife is 290mg/L. Compare this amount with Mount Franklin for instance which contains 5mg/L. This is more than 50 fold the amount of bicarbonate in Alkalife than Mount Franklin. Bicarbonate assists digestion and is a compound typically found in antacid solutions & tablets. Many people take baking soda with water to aid digestion – baking soda is sodium bicarbonate.

Bicarbonate is also a natural alkaline buffer that neutralises acid.

The level of calcium is also very high compared to most other waters. Alkalife contains 60 times more calcium than Mount Franklin which contains just 1mg/L! Many people do not take enough calcium in their diet and the best part about Alkalife is you’re taking in useful amounts of calcium in your body just by drinking water – the customer doesn’t need to change their diet or force themselves to drink something they don’t like. They just drink water as they normally do everyday.

Alkalife also contains the daily recommended intake of silica in every litre of water. Most adults need between 20mg to 30mg of silica per day. Silica is great for maintaining healthy hair, nails and skin and assists connective tissue development.

How does Alkalife differ from other spring waters?

Most bottled waters available on the market are spring waters with little mineral content. Spring waters tend to be acidic (some highly acidic) meaning it will add acidic waste every time you consume it.

Alkalife is mineral water high in alkaline forming minerals which help neutralise acid in the body. Everyone produces acid and acidic by-products so it is a problem that we all face throughout our entire life. Alkaline waters are rare but palatable alkaline waters with the right balance of minerals is even more difficult to find. Alkalife contains high amounts of bicarbonate, calcium, silica and useful amounts of magnesium – all minerals that benefit the body. All waters contain these minerals but the amounts are usually too low to make a positive impact on health.

What is alkaline water?

All waters or solutions can have its pH tested to show whether it is acidic, neutral or alkaline. pH stands for Potential of Hydrogen. It is a scale measured between 0 and 14, where less than 7 represents acidity, 7 neutrality, and more than 7 alkalinity. Unlike linear scales that progress in a smooth, incremental manner, a shift in value on the pH scale represents a tenfold difference in H+ (hydrogen ions) concentration. For example, a shift in pH from 6 to 7 represents a 10-fold decrease in H+ concentration, and a shift from 6 to 8 represents a one-hundred (10 × 10)-fold decrease in H+ concentration.

As everyone knows, water is H2O, two hydrogen atoms for each oxygen atom. Neutral water has an equal number of OH- ions (hydroxyl ions) and H+ ions (hydrogen ions), maintaining the 2 to 1 ratio of hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Alkaline water is water with more OH- ions than H+ ions. This water has more oxygen atoms compared to the 2 to 1 ratio of hydrogen to oxygen atom of regular water. For this reason, alkaline water is considered water with more oxygen – however, adding more oxygen to the water does not make the water alkaline.

Why do we need alkaline water?

Never in history have we been exposed to so many acid-forming foods – we consume junk food, soft drinks, confectionary, all of which produce acid in our body. Exercise creates lactic acid, breathing creates acidic by-products – everyday we are producing more and more acid in our body. Sang Whang, author of “Reverse Aging” and a pioneer in the field of alkalinity/acidity studies states that it is the accumulation of non-disposed acidic wastes that is the cause of aging. If the cause of aging is the accumulation of acid, then to reverse aging must be to eliminate acid!

Our bodies succumb to physical disorders when acid accumulates to the point where resistance is broken down and the body consequently becomes susceptible to cold, fatigue and degenerative disease. We need alkaline forming food and alkaline water in order to neutralise acid. If our body does not have enough alkaline solutions to neutralise acid it will steal alkaline minerals like calcium from your bones, skeleton and tissues.

Alkaline water works better than diet because it does not add more wastes in the process of reducing acids.  All special diets and exercise create more acidic waste.  Alkaline water with any diet and/or exercise regimen works extra well. Alkaline water, special diets and/or exercise mean that there must be a change of lifestyle.  It is very difficult to change one's eating habits.  Drinking alkaline water is the perfect solution for today's fast-lane lifestyle.

Why is Alkalife better than tap or filtered water?

Tap water tests more alkaline than most spring waters but is still slightly acidic and does not contain high amounts of minerals such as those found in Alkalife. Tap water also fluoridated “for the sake of children’s teeth”. In certain parts of the world calcium fluoride occurs naturally in the water and it causes teeth to be yellow and ugly but extremely strong. What is dumped into our water supply however is not calcium fluoride but silicofluorides, which are 85 times more toxic than calcium fluoride. Fluoride is a chemical discharge dumped into our water supply and is known to cause Alzheimer’s Disease amongst other illnesses.

Filtered water may eliminate 99.9% of fluoride in tap water, its primary purpose is to take minerals out of tap water – it does not add minerals to the water. Depending on the filter used, many test slightly acidic creating more acidic waste in our body.

Alkalife is naturally alkaline and does not contain fluoride. Unlike tap or filtered water it is high in minerals so important to our body. If you do not find minerals like bicarbonate, calcium and silica in tap or filtered water, you’re missing out!

What is PET plastic, and why is it safe for use in Alkalife Natural Alkaline Water plastic containers?

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a clear, tough polymer that provides an excellent barrier against oxygen and carbon dioxide. Because of those properties, it has become the plastic material of choice for food and beverage packaging. Consistent with studies by regulators and independent research groups, a 2000 report from the International Life Sciences Institute indicates that “PET itself is biologically inert if ingested, is dermally safe during handling, and is not a hazard if inhaled.”

We understand many are concerned with leaching of chemicals in the water. In taking into account these concerns, we take the following measures to minimise any leaching of chemicals if at all:

  • all our products are distributed in closed vehicles to minimise contact with sunlight or heated conditions;
  • once water is bottled at the source, it is delivered to our storage as soon as possible, usually the same day or next day;
  • water delivered to our storage is distributed immediately and is not stored for prolonged periods so water is fresh.

Are polycarbonate bottles safe to use?

Polycarbonate bottles are made from bisphenol A. Researchers from government agencies, academia, and industry worldwide have studied the potential for bisphenol A (BPA) to migrate from polycarbonate products into foods and beverages. These studies consistently show that the potential migration of BPA into food is extremely low, generally less than 5 parts per billion under conditions typical for uses of polycarbonate products. At this level, one would have to ingest more than 590kg of food and beverages in contact with polycarbonate every day for an entire lifetime to exceed the safe level of BPA set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Consequently, human exposure to BPA from polycarbonate plastics is minimal and poses no known health risk.

Food Standards Australia agree that BPA does not cause cancer.

The Australasian Bottled Water Institute has also released a media statement. For further information please visit: http://www.australianbeverages.org/lib/pdf/MR-BisphenolA-180908.pdf
